The breath as an anchor

The breath as an anchor

Of all the tools for steadying ourselves, the breath is the most available. It asks for nothing — no mat, no quiet room, no spare hour. It is simply here, moving, whether we notice it or not.

Try this: inhale slowly for a count of four, let the belly soften, then exhale for a count of six. The longer exhale signals the body to settle. Three rounds is often enough to change how a moment feels.

We weave this into every class at Kayan — not as a technique to master, but as a way home. The breath you find on the reformer is the same one waiting for you in traffic, before a hard conversation, at the end of a long day.
